While some people like walking, some find it boring or would rather mix things up a bit. We’ve known for a long time that walking can help you maintain your weight and keep lost weight from coming back.
Fresh off the presses, new research from the Harvard School of Public Health has looked at using bicycling vs. walking to maintain weight. The bottom line from 16 years of data on over 18,000 women showed that women who bicycled gained less weight than those who didn’t.
While further study is needed, researchers feel that cycling might be an acceptable replacement for brisk walking to help keep weight off.
For people with joint problems, bicycling offers a great opportunity for aerobic exercise with less joint stress. It’s also a great opportunity to help get you conditioned for more strenuous activity, either longer and faster rids or brisk walking down the line.
As someone with a recurrent knee problem, I’m really happy to know one of my alternative exercises is such a great choice. With the beautiful summer weather all over the country, now’s the time to hop on your wheels and take a spin!

Mixing it up is good! I am not a fan of bike riding but god forbid if I had to, I would over no exercise! :-)
