Walk This Way – Stepping My Way to Better Health

As promised in my last blog I went out and bought myself a step counter.

The model is the SportLine Step and Distance and I picked it up at my local Walmart for only $5! You can’t beat that for cheap fitness gear. While the reviews on it varied (some didn’t like button placement), so far I think it’s great.

Tech-y gadgets are fun, but sometimes simplicity rules. This model is small so it’s pretty easy to conceal in most outfits, a must if I’m going to wear it all the time. Not only does it count your steps, but you can easily set the length of your walking (or running) stride so you can track distance too.

I feel like my butt is glued to my desk chair most of the day, so imagine my surprise when I had close to 2000 steps by lunchtime! I guess all that buzzing around the office does some good.

I find myself checking the readout every so often, and if it hasn’t moved in a while I do another lap around the office. It stretches my legs, gets my blood moving AND adds more of those all important steps.

I’m tracking my first week to get a baseline. So far during the work week I’ve had over 5,000 steps per day; we’ll see what the weekend brings to my average. I don’t think I’ll be getting to 10,000 right away, but being more aware of how many steps I get and when is going to help me on my way.

Its two thumbs up from me for this inexpensive little gadget. I’m having fun with it AND getting healthier! Won’t you join me?
