In a study published in the Journal of Proteome Research, scientists have discovered new evidence linking chili peppers to fat loss. This is not the first time that capsaicin (the active ingredient that gives chili peppers their kick) has been linked to weight loss; but this particular study may give us a better understand of why this happens.
It’s been long believed that eating hot peppers can help promote weight loss in addition to making you all hot and sweaty. But this particular study found that capsaicin actually caused changes in certain proteins found in fat and that these altered proteins work to break down fat in the body. Woo hoo! Keep in mind that the study was done is rats and more research has to be done to see if the same results apply to humans. In the meantime, I’m going to start adding hot red chilies, cayenne pepper and crushed red pepper to everything. Well, maybe not all of them at the same time, but you get the point. Lucky for me, I love spicy food!

Since we’re on the subject of weight loss, I also wanted to mention that I finally had a chance to watch the first episode of Losing It With Jillian last night. I absolutely loved it! I have to admit that I used to find her “in-your-face” antics sort of irritating, but over the past few years I’ve come to appreciate and admire her work. Regardless of her delivery, she really does know what she’s talking about. I found the way she connected with the Mastropietro family very endearing. So, if you have a chance to check out the show, please do. Whether you need inspiration yourself or just want to learn a little bit more about diet and exercise, I think everyone can take something away from the show.
Hey, I even did her Yoga Meltdown workout this morning and it kicked by booty! My boyfriend walked in and was like “this is yoga?!” because I was sweating all over the place. So, Jillian Michaels…it took awhile, but you’ve converted me into a big fan. Now if I can only get those abs of yours!
Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend!
