Video Review – Brazil Butt Lift

Brazil Butt Lift is the newest fitness video from Beachbody. Beachbody is the company that brought us fitness videos such as P90X and Turbo Jam. I have enjoyed many of their videos in the past because they really do focus on fitness and not just fads. However, when I heard the name of their new video, I thought it was a joke. Brazil Butt Lift did not sound like a serious workout to me, but I decided to try it anyway. Luckily, a client of mine had already purchased Brazil Butt Lift so I borrowed it from her. I believe in try before you buy!

When you order Brazil Butt Lift, you actually get a set of three DVD’s. The first video covers the basic exercises to “lift your butt”. It also incorporates some cardiovascular exercise to burn fat while you tone your glutes. The second video uses a resistance band and light ankle weights to continue to tone your butt. There is a cardio section on this DVD too. The third DVD includes a cardio dance workout to Brazilian music and a 20 minute abdominal workout. All of the DVD’s are led by Leandro Carvalho, a Brazil native, professional dancer and fitness professional who claims to have worked with supermodels to sculpt beautiful bodies.

Once I figured out what the DVD’s included I set aside some time to try them. I started with the Basic DVD. Leandro took a little getting used to but he was fine. He actually turned out to be a really good instructor. The video was a good workout for me. I exercise everyday so I think it would be a tough workout for a beginner. So far so good. I like the first video. The second video had two sections, “High and Tight” and “Sculpt”. This video was a little harder and incorporated the resistance band and/or ankle weights. Some of the moves in this video were really effective. I liked this video too. The third video had two sections as well. The first section was called “Cardio Axe.” It is a cardio/dance workout set to Brazilian music. It was fast paced but not too difficult too follow. I was sweating at the end of the video so it was definitely a cardio workout. The second part of the video was “Tummy Tuck”. This part was strictly abdominal work. The moves were not new but they were effective. The ab work was mostly crunches and sit-up type of moves. Each video had a good energy and a fun style to it. I enjoyed each workout.

The Beachbody website says that the secret to the workout is Leandro’s TriAngle Training Program. This program is said to work all three major muscles of the buttocks to lift and shape your butt and reduce extra weight around your hips and thighs.

The cardiovascular workout is included to help burn fat and tone your butt while having fun. I did like that they included cardiovascular training in the videos. There is also some upper body training and of course the abdominal training.

Overall, I liked the Brazil Butt Lift videos. They were fun (once you got used to the Leandro’s voice). The exercises really seemed to work the butt. I did feel a little sore the next day. I think a little soreness is a good thing. I also found that the music was fun and motivating. Music is a very important piece of the workout and I think the music worked for this video. On the negative side, the videos are expensive. Most of Beachbody’s videos are expensive. Brazil Butt Lift sells for over $70.00. You might be able to find a used one on Craigslist for less. I also found that they instructor kind of rushes you through the moves. He is not the best at cueing the class before changing moves. That takes a little getting used to but if you do the videos a few times, you will catch on.

While I don’t think the videos will replace your gym membership or your current fitness routine, it could be a fun supplement to your workout.

Also included with Brazil Butt Lift are a Booty Makeover Guide, Fat Burning Foods Meal Plan, TriAngle Training Cards, Tape Measure and Tracker Card and a Pencil for the Butt Lift Test. I could easily do without all of these things but I guess they make it seem like the whole package was worth $70.00. With our without the extras, I would say if you are looking for something fun and a little different, give Brazil Butt Lift a try!

haha I would totally try this if it wasn't so expensive. I love the idea of getting a nice Brazilian butt. I think I would rather just keep running and run up hills and stairs for my butt.
