Healthiest Fast Food Restaurants

Let’s be frank. I don’t like to cook. Okay, maybe that’s just me being frank, but I’m sure some of you can relate. Alas, we all know the benefits of preparing our meals vs. eating out, so I do my best impression of Betty Crocker and cook a little something everyday; or at least every other day. That said, sometimes school, work (or shopping) take over my day and make it impossible for me to cook at home. That’s why I found this article from Health.com on America’s Top 10 Healthiest Fast Food Restaurants quite handy.

To give you a quick recap, the lucky 10 (followed by my commentary) were:

  1. Panera Bread - The You Pick Two® option is my favorite. A cup of soup and half a sandwich or salad makes my day.
  2. Jason’s Deli - How have I not been here yet? There’s one about half an hour away, so I will let you know what I think.
  3. Au Bon Pain - So many healthy options it’s hard to choose.
  4. Noodles and Company - I haven’t seen these here in Florida, but I’m intrigued. I’ll have to check them out the next time I go up north.
  5. Corner Bakery Café
  6. Chipotle - I can’t say enough about their burrito bowls. Topped with fajita veggies and salsa. Delicious!
  7. Atlanta Bread
  8. McDonald’s - I haven’t been to McDonald’s in a while, but in a late night bind, I could see myself grabbing one of those Snack Wraps.
  9. Einstein Bros. Bagels - Nobody loves bagels more than me. I top mine with the reduced fat shmear. Heavenly.
  10. Taco Del Mar
As you can tell, I’ve been around the fast food block! A few of these places aren’t local for me (Noodles and Company, Corner Bakery Café, Taco Del Mar), so if any of you have been there, please give us the scoop.

Remember to keep an eye out for smaller portions, low-fat dressings or spreads and pile on the veggies. Yes, cooking is preferred, but let’s be realistic, sometimes shopping gets in the way. Check out the article above for some good tips!

Panera & Chipotle are on my top 5 fave restaurants. Glad to know they provide some healthy options :-) And Jason's Deli is AWESOME! Great sandwiches, huge salad bar and their baked potatoes are amazing...although they are the size of your head! Wish they had one closer to me.

Panera's Greek Salad is to die for! I have to say I'm a Moe's girl myself...maybe one day I'll break down and try Chipotle...maybe...

Chipotle is good but you have to be careful you do not go crazy adding everything on the menu. Remember a salad does not have to have beans and rice in it. You can have just lettuce and other ingredients such as corn or guacamole added with a protein source.

Ooh this list is awesome! I absolutely love Panera!! I could probably eat there everyday, though it's sometimes hard to stay away from those sticky rolls they sell! These extra tips will definitely come in handy! Thanks!!!

Always good info BUT always check the nutritionals online first. For example, Panera has some pretty fat/calorie laden sandwiches and soups so just know what you are ordering. Bagels can be very high in caloreis too depending on who makes them so just check it out. Plan ahead!

Thanks for the information! We have McDonald's which I just can't do anymore, but we do like Jason's deli.

    Have a great weekend!
