I’ve said it before, I’m a food geek. I’ve been known to get exceptionally excited in the produce department over a ripe pineapple or beautiful broccolini. When my neighbor’s starfruit tree hung heavy with fruit, I could hardly wait for everything to ripen. I happen to think that tree-vine-etc. ripened produce is a work of art.
Not everyone appreciates food in that way. Alton Brown, the star of the Food Network show Good Eats, is one person who does. He creates a pretty entertaining show while teaching viewers cooking techniques and the benefits of good food. He’s my favorite food geek!
Monday night I watched an episode, titled Live and Let Diet which highlighted how Alton had lost 50 pounds. No gimmicks, no gadgets, he simply adopted a healthy and sensible diet and limited things like sweets and alcohol to one time a week.
Alton shares the guidelines he used to trim down and get healthier. He starts his morning with a smoothie packed with antioxidants, fruit and fiber. While sharing his own ‘recipe’ for success, he also explains to viewers the benefits of each of the foods he includes daily or weekly in his menus.
There are great tips for anyone looking to improve their diet or lose a few pounds. If you’re interested in watching, it’s replaying on the Food Network channel, Jan 14 at 11pm. It’s a great show, with great advice. Set your DVR today!

I agree it was a great episode. I was taking notes! I'm going to keep it on my DVR for a while so I can keep referring back. Wish it was on YouTube so I could share with friends. Great post!
