Every year there are certain fitness trends that stand out. What will they be for 2010? Well, as a personal trainer and owner of a fitness center, I think the focus will be on efficiency, effectiveness and uniqueness. These days everyone wants results in the shortest possible amount of time. However, they also want to have fun while they’re doing their exercise. Based on that information, here are some of what I think will be the hottest fitness trends in 2010.
Group Personal Training
I think that Group Personal Training will increase in popularity. Personal training will always be popular because people need motivation and guidance. However, personal training can be expensive. Therefore, I see people training in pairs or small groups of 3 or 4 people. This will make the workout less costly and can make the workout more fun if you get friends involved.
Boot Camps
Boot Camps will continue to be popular. Boot Camps are similar to group personal training however there can be up to 15 or more people in a boot camp at one time. They are typically run by a personal trainer or group fitness instructor and can vary from beginner boot camp to advanced. You can join a boot camp for a certain period of time, such as six weeks, or you can continue on indefinitely. Boot Camps are great for motivation as well as keeping your workout fresh. These types of workouts can be very efficient as well. You can work your entire body in one hour or less.
Fitness Games
Fitness games will continue to increase in popularity. I must admit, I did get the Wii Fit for Christmas and I like it. There are many other new fitness games on the market recently as well. Fitness games are great because they can be used for everyone from beginner to advanced. You can do them in the privacy of your own home whenever you like. Some fitness centers will probably start providing some kind of fitness games in an effort to keep their clients coming back.
Baby Boomer Fitness
Baby Boomer Fitness will be popular. Personal Training and fitness classes aimed at baby boomers will continue to be popular. Baby Boomers are a growing part of our society. Continuing to exercise means a better quality of life for aging adults. More trainers will start specializing in this population.
Specialty Classes
Lastly, I think specialty classes will become even more popular. Shows like So You Think You can Dance and Dancing with the Stars have gotten people interested in classes such as Ballroom and Hip Hop. These types of classes as well as Zumba and other dance based classes will continue to gain popularity.
I’m sure there will be some new fitness fads in 2010, however these trends are not just passing fads. They are legitimate fitness plans and can help people get in shape and stay fit all year.
