Whether you think you can dance or you absolutely know you can’t, dancing is a great workout. You don’t have to be good at it to have fun and burn a ton of calories. Shows like Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Best Dance Crew have made all types of dancing popular. It is now cool to take Hip Hop one day and Ballroom Dancing the next. I admit that I am not the best dancer, however, I love taking dance classes to change up my workout. I love being in the class because there is such great energy. If I am just trying a new dance workout, I sometimes get a DVD so that I can practice in the privacy of my own home. If you haven’t tried a dance workout, now is the time. There are so many to choose from that you will definitely find one that you like. These are some of my favorites.
Zumba
I’m not great at Zumba but I love the music and I always sweat like crazy. Zumba uses latin music and dance moves to create a calorie burning workout. The class contains intervals of fast and slow dance moves and can be modified to any level. You can find a class near you or try Zumba.com to get a DVD.
Hip Hop Abs
I love this video! It’s a little slow but I can follow the dance moves and it really works your abs. There are many Hip Hop dance classes at gyms and fitness centers that are similar and will give you a great ab workout. Check out BEACHBODY to see a clip of the video and order your own.
Core Rhythms
Core Rhythms is actually a few different DVDs. The workout is a mixture of ballroom dance moves and abdominal work. You will work your entire core while burning calories. You can start with the beginner DVD and work up to the Xtreme cardio dance DVD.
Belly Dancing
I have a friend who is a fantastic belly dancing instructor. After I take her class, I feel like I really worked my whole core. This workout is low impact so it’s great for those who don’t want much jumping but still want to burn calories. A great Belly Dancing DVD is Kathy Smith’s Flex Appeal Belly Dance workout. This is a Belly Dancing workout based in fitness. You can find a Belly Dancing class at almost any fitness center near you.
Ballroom Dancing
Dancing with the Stars has really made Ballroom Dancing popular. You can get in a ballroom dancing class by yourself, but it is easier if you bring a partner. Lessons can cost more than a DVD or a class that incorporates some ballroom dancing moves but with lessons you will really learn ballroom dancing. Ballroom dancing burns a ton of calories and will tone your legs and core. Have you seen the dancers on Dancing with the Stars? They are in great shape! A good beginner ballroom dancing DVD is, Dance It Off Ballroom. You can purchase it at Collage Video.
If you get up and dance, you will be having fun and burning a ton of calories. Try it today.

My stepdaughter loves ballet & swing dance. I always tell her to do something she loves for her workout!
