Here we are again; pen in one hand and a heavy head in the other, facing a blank piece of paper. Some people may get depressed if they are looking at last year’s resolutions and none came through. Why do people torture themselves like this? Because it’s a tradition? It should not remain a tradition if it upsets people. Traditions are supposed to make us remember something that makes us happy and grateful, not to torture!
The new year is supposed to make us feel better, exciting us about the wonderful things that are coming our way. The first thing on the list should be to be happier, so if the goal of losing 20 pounds makes your blood pressure go up; break it down. Eating healthier and losing 2 lbs a month sounds much more feasible. If you really can’t fit in a daily workout, aim for 2 hours a week. That should be much easier, more enjoyable and you’re still getting the benefits, even more than if you don’t do it at all.
If your resolutions are less mundane; like making a difference in the world, start by giving three compliments a day, smiling more, greeting people or holding the door for strangers. I promise you, this will make a difference as it’s a contagious act of kindness. Giving thanks is also a very uplifting act. Look around you and you will see things to be thankful for. I suggest starting by doing it in the morning and again in the evening, it’s very powerful.
We hear the same thing every year; make small, measurable, realistic and timely goals for a better outcome. But it works best if we do a little every day.
So don’t stress out about this on the first day of the year, celebrate it as the gift that keeps on giving.
From the bottom of my heart; a wonderful 2010 filled with love, health, happiness and prosperity. May this be the best year of your life, thus far!
Peace and love.
