Who’s Your Buddy?

Eating fruit has gotten even easier. No more worrying about fresh fruit bruising or spoiling; now you won’t even have to chew!

“Real fruit, real fun, real easy” claims the label of Buddy Fruits. Each convenient 3.2 oz package is equivalent to one serving of fresh fruit. The fruits come in 5 flavors (apple, strawberry, apple & cinnamon, banana and multifruit) and are 100% pure fruit without any additives.

Found in the refrigerated produce section of your supermarket, the packets are a cute novelty. I tried the multifruit which is a blend of apple, banana, passion fruit juice, mango, strawberry and concentrated apple juice.

The taste was great and the smoothness actually reminded me of baby food. The cost was a bit high. Most people wouldn’t pay $1 for an apple or small banana, but this is what you are doing with this product.

I think this would be a good product for camping or traveling where bringing fresh fruit might be difficult. The size and novelty will most likely appeal to kids. The fact that it’s resealable will appeal to moms. No more half-eaten containers of fruit being thrown away. For small children I’d recommend baby food as a more cost effective alternative. The small plastic containers available now are similar in size and about ½ the price.

In our convenience driven society, I expect this will be one of many similar products. In fact, I’ve see applesauce packaged this way in my local Whole Foods store. Hopefully the competition will drive down the price, because in today’s economy value is everything!
