The holiday season is a time of giving, and what better way to show you care than giving a “good-for-you” holiday gift. Over the next few weeks our nutrition experts will share their favorite healthy holiday gift ideas for 2009. Enjoy!
One of my favorite holiday gift ideas is something I use all year long…Bistro Blends Balsamic Vinegars. These are sold at my local farmer’s market and I’ve sent them to family and friends all over the country. The minute I first tried these, I was hooked. I don’t even buy salad dressing anymore.
These aged balsamic vinegars are blended with purees of raspberries, blackberries, strawberries or figs and are just 10 calories per tablespoon. If you don’t like the fruit addition, you can also get a barrel-aged heirloom balsamic. All of the flavors are amazing! Check the website to see if they’re available at a store or farmer’s market near you. If not, you can order from the website.
I also like making homemade gifts, it’s a great thing to do for those people ‘who have everything’ on your list. Over the years I’ve made candy, chocolate covered pretzels, oils, soap and bath salts. This year I’m planning on making two different spice rubs, one Indian and one Spanish. I’ll place them in fancy jars and include a recipe card with tips for use.
Enjoy and happy holidays!
