Food Review - Lean Cuisine Breakfast Panini

Lean Cuisine has made the leap into breakfast entrees. They have 2 new breakfast paninis, both under 300 calories. Each package contains a half sandwich that cooks in your microwave on a crisping disk.

Not being a pork sausage fan, I tried the Denver-style panini. Each piece of the sandwich had a generous amount of filling. My sandwich looked much different than the box picture. The shape of the bread was different and mine was missing the beautiful panini grill markings.

The flavor was quite good and I’d definitely try it again. There was lots of filing and even the bread flavor was good. My only disappointment was that the bread didn’t crisp at all. While the temperature was good, the bread ended up feeling oily. Perhaps the time listed on the box isn’t adequate for the crisping process. Next time I’ll extend it a little bit.

Given that Lean Cuisine does such a great job with their microwave pizzas, I’m not sure why they needed the extra oil for the panini bread. A drier bread would have made it much easier to eat at my desk.

So give it a try and let me know what you think. Is the oil on the bread a turn off for you? Or did yours crisp up like it was suppose to?

Hopefully this is a product that will just keep getting better.

Take my word for it, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I'm a fan of several of the other lean cuisine meals but so far, the breakfast ones are nasty.

I second Jennifer's comment. Just threw the sausage & egg panini in the trash and had some oatmeal instead. The bread was kind of sweet and it didn't combine well with the egg/sausage. I'm usually not a picky eater and don't like to waste money, but the sandwich was inedible.

I was sceptical because I am a picky eater especially when it comes to microwaved meals, and eggs too. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to eat it - but honestly the maple sauce and cinnamon bread really helped me not taste the zapped eggs. I was pleasantly surprised. Sure it wasn't as crisp as it would have been grilled at home, but overall it wasn't terribly bad. I had a side of black berries and red raspberries with it pretty tasty for a quick breakfast at my desk.
