Julie & Julia - A great movie for my fellow foodies and food bloggers!

I have to admit, I am not a movie goer, nor will I wait in line when a movie is first released. I prefer buying the movie and watching it from the comfort of my own home with a nice glass of Chianti. But the theater is a pretty “cool” place to be on Sunday afternoon when the mercury climbs above 90° F.

I had to talk about this movie because I can’t have a food experience without thinking about how I can share it with our readers. I assume it’s the same for my fellow bloggers. Every time I cook, eat something or do something that has anything to do with food and healthy eating, I wonder if and how to share it with all of you.

The movie was close to home for me (and I am sure for you too) because of how Julie’s blog started and evolved. I had to laugh when she got her first comment, but of course it came from her mom! It was also pretty funny when she was trying to estimate the percentage of readers who would comment. The whole blog evolution was very interesting and real.

The main reason I had to see this movie is because I just love Julia Child. What she has done for the North American kitchen is simply incredible. Especially knowing that writing a cook book and becoming a TV personality was not her intention from the start. Learning how to cook was just a way of keeping busy while her husband was transferred to Paris. Learning how to play bridge or making hats failed to keep her entertained and challenged, so she decided to take cooking classes because she was so passionate about good food. And from then on, one thing after another happened, and years later the Americans welcomed her into their kitchens and loved her for all she was. And of course there was the butter; you cannot mention the name Julia Child without thinking about butter. She was right though…everything tastes better with butter, a “good” butter I have to clarify (no pun intended).

She was an incredible woman, and I’ve never heard anybody saying anything negative about her. We loved her just as she was, with her quirks and all.

The movie had an important message; when you do what you love, things just fall into place and something good will happen. I believe in that and I hope people will see this message too.

So now I want to move to France and make friends with all the small shop owners and try their “best selection” of the day. I will figure out how to pay the rent later. After all, I just said that once you do what you love, things fall into place. But wait…I have been doing what I love for 22 years! That makes me a very lucky person then.

Bon appétit and thank you for reading and commenting! Just like Julie, it makes my day and makes me really happy.

- Josée
