The Best “Diet” Available
There are so many diets books out there it makes me dizzy. As a dietitian who specializes in weight loss, I’ve probably read almost half of them just to stay informed on the latest “diet craze”. But after 22 years, I am done and you should be too! You can basically divide diet books into two categories…crazy diets and healthy diets with a new twist.

Good nutrition has not changed over the years. The BEST DIET is still one that includes a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables (5 to 9 servings a day), whole grain products, legumes, fish and seafood, healthy fats, low fat dairy products, no fried foods and a limited amount of animal protein. Eat the least amount of processed foods, drink plenty of water and get some exercise. Simple, but effective.

What happens when you provide your body with what it needs to function properly? You stop having cravings for other “stuff”. You feel better, digest better, sleep better and want to take better care of yourself. Over time you will also see improvements in your body composition. Isn’t this incredible! No magic; just good food, prepared simply with some herbs and spices so you really taste the food itself, which is what makes this food delicious and different than others.

So here’s an experiment for you…next weekend go check what your local farmers have to offer. Ask questions about products you aren’t familiar with and take some home with you. Involve your kids or friends in the whole process. You will surely add new foods to your repertoire and it will be fun. Go on and do it!

I so agree. I feel so much better when I am eating better & my bod reacts better!!! :-) That is why I still try to eat fairly well when I go on vacation. Otherwise I end up feeling like crap! Not a way to feel on vacation. I just plan for some treat times & keep active.

So true Jody. My hubby and I go to Mexico every year and we always here people talking about how "Mexico makes them sick". I wonder, is it Mexico's fault, or is it the fact that so many people drink nothing but margarita's and eat their body weight in burritos and cheese sauce for a week straight? lol My guess is the latter.

    I agree too!!

There is no "magic pill or potion" to lose weight. For me, the best decision I have made so far in my weight loss journey is putting down the processed foods. Meaning, crackers, fat free pringles, granola bars, etc... Eating real food is so more satisfying for me!

I am going to check out my farmer's market this weekend and find something new!
