Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Are you a worrier, or a free spirit? I was raised to worry, and I do. I inherited this job by default, because I have a brother who was supposed to be the one, but he changed his mind and doesn’t ever worry, about anything. For his 8th birthday someone gave him Mad Magazine, and according to my father, this was where it all went wrong. For years my brother “squandered” his 25cent weekly allowance, and most of my fathers’ patience, keeping up with Mad’s mascot, Alfred E. Neuman, whose philosophy was “What? Me Worry?” According to my father, this was a very powerful message.

Ten years passed, and in 1968, five minutes after my brother left for college he ‘discovered’ Guru Meher Baba whose poster went straight up on his wall, and whose philosophy “DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY” went straight to his heart. According to my father, this was a very powerful message.

Don’t say you’ve never heard of Meher Baba, because 20 years later, almost to the day, a singer named Bobby McFerrin found an identical poster in a friends’ apartment, in the city my brother once called home. Probably the same poster, in the same apartment my brother left fully furnished when he moved. He explained to my parents that possessions were only our earthly home, and he was now more highly evolved. According to my father, it was a very powerful message. It did work out really well for Bobby McFerrin.

“Don’t Worry, Be Happy is the title and principal lyric of a song by musician Bobby McFerrin. In September of 1988, the song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks. On the UK Singles Chart, the song reached number 2 on the chart. At the 1989 Grammy Awards, "Don't Worry Be Happy" won the awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The song's title is taken from a famous quote by Meher Baba.” According to my father, it was a very powerful message.

Our Gurus at Sensei have developed a powerful message as well. Our plan unites the free spirit and the worrier on a path toward a happy, healthy, and well balanced life. The worrier replaces wasted time and energy with action. The free spirit has no need to worry or plan ahead. Sensei does all the planning based upon your lifestyle, tastes and choices. Worriers can stick to the meals they choose. Free spirits can hit the shuffle button; replacing meals, menus, preparation styles and venues to their hearts content! Sensei will help you eat healthier, smaller portions of the food you like, and begin to enjoy a healthy, normal relationship with food. According to my father, this is a very powerful message.

We’d love to hear from you. Join our Sensei chorus and sing “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” Openings exist for worriers and free spirits. Send us your video/audio, we’ll gladly post them here.

I am not a worrier!! I think it wastes time to worry about something that may never come true!

I like not being a worrier, because then your always in a state of hapiness and things are going to turn out okay! And I think because I feel that, then they usually are okay!

I enjoyed reading your post, now I'll be singing that song in my head all day!

I worry, but I put a time limit on it. For xx minutes, I can worry as much as I need to, and then I put it away. So far, it's working. ;)
