Boot Camp workouts are very popular these days. You can sign up for Boot Camp classes at a local gym, in a park or even through a community center. Although the name "Boot Camp" makes it sound like an impossible military type workout, you can find the right one for you and get a great workout. Boot Camp style workouts can provide great results in just a few sessions per week.
Boot Camp workouts are designed to work your entire body. You will work everything from your shoulders to your abs to your glutes. The workout usually incorporates some of the old fashioned military moves such as push ups, pull ups, and jumping jacks. If you're thinking you can't do a push up don't worry, you start at your own level and modify all of the exercises so that you can participate. Boot Camps can also incorporate some more recent fitness crazes such as Pilates. In a Boot Camp class you can be doing jumping jacks one minute and holding a Pilates style plank the next. Two great things about Boot Camp are that you will never get bored and you will always get a great workout!
Boot Camps are designed to do many things for their clients. Here are the things I love about Boot Camp workouts.
- They are efficient. You can work your whole body in a short period of time.
- They burn tons of calories.
- Every workout can be different so you probably won't get bored.
- They are easy to follow. The moves are hard to do but there is no tricky choreography like you might have in Zumba.
- You don't need any special equipment. You can just show up with your sneakers and some water and get a great workout.
Your Boot Camp workout should be fun. When you find a Boot Camp class near you, ask if you can have one free class. Most instructors are fine with giving out a free class before you join for 6 to 12 weeks. During the free class, pay attention to the instructor and the rest of the clients. Your instructor should make you feel strong and empowered. Boot Camp is not about making anyone feel bad because they can't do 50 push ups. You should only be competing against yourself. The instructor should also have a good knowledge of all the exercises and be able to explain them. He or she should move around the class to help the clients use proper form and ensure they are getting the most out of their workout. Also, make sure your instructor gives equal time to all the participants not just the strong or advanced clients.
Boot Camp can be a great way to change up your workout and rev up your metabolism. Look online, ask friends or call local gyms or community centers to find a great Boot Camp class near you. Once you try it, you will love it. It's a great change from your usual workout and you will definitely see the results. Next week I'll post a great mini boot camp workout you can do at home!
