A little Friday ‘Food for Thought’ and possibly some ideas to experiment with this weekend…
I admit it…I am a grown woman without children, and I buy baby food.
Now before you jump to some conclusion about my mental state or food issues, there is a logical (and healthy) reason. I use it in cooking. You’ve all heard about using applesauce to replace fat in recipes, right? Well mine is a tastier version.
Think about it. While applesauce does a great job replacing fat in recipes, it doesn’t really do anything to the flavor. Another bonus is size. You can buy baby food in 3 or 6 ounce jars, which are prefect sizes for most recipes. No opening a big jar of applesauce when you only need ¼ cup. It’s also made with little or no sugar, so it won’t affect the sweetness of your baked goods.
The super smooth texture works great in any dish!
Uses…- Cake mixes and fruit breads to replace the fat and enhance the fruit flavor
- Pancakes to replace the fat and add flavor
- Pancake topping (warm in microwave first & add a little cinnamon)
- Fruit salad topping
- Cook down over medium heat, add chopped dried fruit and use as a sauce for chicken or fish (peaches, plums, apricots)
- Or any other creative way you’d like
I’m always looking for new ideas, so let me know what you come up with!
Happy Friday!
