Resolutions, Ha!
My friends asked me if I made my resolutions for next year…Yeah, right! They ask me this after making the same resolutions for the past ten years. Why do people torture themselves like that? We all say we want to be wiser, nicer, eat better and exercise more. Some may add they want to support a worthy cause, promise to meditate everyday or visit a relative who is really not nice. Everybody has one of those in their family, and we can usually only be nice until the next time we get insulted and promise it’s the last time, “this time!”

But it seems that some people are so hard on themselves when they “fail” at achieving their 15 resolutions by March. So instead, why not pick small achievable goals. Don’t set your self up for failure right away. Be nice to yourself first. I read a wonderful book this year called “Ask and It Is Given” by Esther and Jerry Hicks. In this book they say to reach for a feeling of well being at all times. I’ve been studying and have probably read most spiritual and self help books written over the last 30 years, but this really was something foreign to me. No meditation, no affirmation, no candles…just reach for a feeling of well being.

If an unpleasant idea comes to mind, switch it around and tune yourself back to feeling good. It’s so simple, but so powerful! And you know what? It’s contagious. People see it and question that permanent grin. Once you are happier, even if you were happy before, you become a better person.

So there it is! First step: clean and de-clutter your mind and your home. Second: put a smile on your face and tune into the happy channel. If you are losing some bars (losing your signal) get tuned in. Third: be thankful and appreciative for what you have and ask for more of the good stuff because there is plenty more where it comes from. Remember to take baby steps, celebrate the small successes and promise yourself that every year will always be better than the year before.

If you could see me now, I’m smiling and Lauren is probably wondering what’s on my mind. She knows…she’s got the same contagious condition.

Happy New Year! Let this next year be filled with love, happiness, health and wealth. And the year after, even more!

With kindness,

- Josee
