Color Your Plate

We talk all the time here at Sensei about “Coloring Your Plate” and eating heart healthy fats because it’s so important for your health and disease prevention. If eating a variety of nutritious, whole foods is a key element in your healthy eating strategy (and it should be), why not take it a step farther by combining some of these foods to get the maximum nutrition benefit!

For example, did you know that eating a high vitamin C food, like pineapple, along with a high iron food, like pork tenderloin, actually helps your body absorb the iron better? Similarly, having vitamin D present will help the body better absorb calcium; like with vitamin D fortified milk. To learn more about combining foods for enhanced nutrition check out this article Eating Foods in Tandem Helps Body Absorb Vitamins.

Here’s to a healthy you in 2009!
