New Fitness Trends For 2009
It’s almost 2009 and millions of people will resolve to start exercising, lose weight and get healthy. Every year people make the same resolution but many of them don’t reach their goals. This year it should be easier than ever to start exercising because there are so many options for working out. It’s no longer about joining a big name gym, paying a big monthly fee and exercising with a group of 50 or more people with an instructor who has no idea who you are. The top fitness trends for 2009 are fun, effective, time efficient and tailored to your own goals!
  1. Boot Camp - Boot Camp classes started gaining more popularity this past year. This type of class uses basic moves like push ups, sit ups and squats to get you into shape. The class is effective because the moves are challenging and time-efficient because you can squeeze a lot of different exercises into a one hour class. A lot of boot camp classes are held in smaller gyms or even at parks. You can also join a boot camp for your specific needs. There are bridal boot camps, post baby boot camps and even high school reunion boot camps.

  2. Time – efficient, shorter workouts – Gone are the days when people spent 2 hours in the gym. Everyone is so busy that shorter workouts are very popular. The shorter workout is usually around 30 to 40 minutes. The idea is to get in and get out while still getting a good workout. All types of classes including pilates, step and body sculpting can be done in a 30 minute time period.

  3. Fun – Classes at health clubs are already trending this way. Fitness centers are offering everything from Latin dance to ballroom dance to hula hoop or trampoline classes. Fun will be the theme in 2009. So get ready to get in shape and have fun doing it!

  4. Working out at home – It seems like everyone is putting out an exercise DVD these days. You can get any type of workout on a DVD, which will help you save money and time by working out at home. Small groups of people can get together at a home and do a workout. You can even download workout videos from fitness websites and watch them on your computer.

  5. Small group personal training – Personal training is a great way to get a workout tailored your specific needs, but it can be costly. Small group personal training with three or four people can save you money and add variety to your workout. You can do it with friends or sign up and meet new people to get fit with.
Try one of these fitness trends and start the New Year off right. By summer, you’ll be glad you did.
