Lauren’s gift giving guide inspired me to share some of my favorite gift ideas with you too. I’m always looking for healthy, creative gifts to give family and friends. Here are a few ideas to add to Lauren’s list:
- Healthy cookbooks – great for the novice, or find a healthy ethnic cookbook for the experienced cook.
- Subscription to Cooking Light Magazine – always a great gift for beginners and foodies alike!
- Counter top grill (like the George Forman grills) – perfect for singles or couples.
My favorite gifts to give are ‘semi’- homemade. Because my parents can be hard to buy for, I’ve often created my own gift basket for them. I go to local shops and stores to find various gourmet items like dry soup or rice mixes, sugar free jams (my mother is diabetic) or syrups, nuts and dried fruit. I’m often collecting items for 2 to 3 months before it’s time to wrap them up in a decorative box or basket. I find I do a much nicer job than any company I could order from, and at a fraction of the cost!
Don’t limit your gift baskets to foods, pick a theme and go crazy…garden tools, kitchen gadgets, pet products, hair accessories, you name it. Have fun, make it playful and your friends and family will love the special attention you gave to their gift!
