| Get a Great Workout at Home! |
If your New Year’s resolution includes getting in shape, losing weight, becoming more healthy, taking better care of yourself, etc., etc…then exercise is in your near future. I happen to be one of those people who loves to exercise and I realize that there are not many of us. Most people just want to do it and get it over with. Since most people don’t love to exercise, they usually find any excuse not to go to the gym. This year, why not bring the gym to your house. For relatively little money, you can get a few key pieces of equipment that will help you tone up, slim down and get healthy.
First, try a stability ball. A stability ball is a big ball that you just pump up (pump is provided with purchase of a ball) and start exercising. A stability ball can be used for all sorts of toning exercises including abs, glutes and upper body. You can also use it to increase your cardio workout. It can be used in Pilates and stretching as well. You can pick one up for between $12 and $20 at any sporting goods store, Target or Walmart...
Next, get yourself an exercise mat. You can use an exercise mat for abdominal work, toning, yoga, Pilates or stretching. A mat is usually around $15.
Thirdly, invest in an aerobic step. Step aerobics has been around for a long time, can burn a lot of calories, and the step can be used for toning as well as a cardiovascular workout. A step will cost between $75 and $100.
Next, buy a few good fitness DVD’s. You don’t have to use a DVD everyday, but they can be great for teaching you the right form, giving variety to your workouts and motivating you. Check out Gaiam.com for some great DVD’s that are very professional and give a great workout. Click on Media library and then fitness DVD’s. Pretty much anything they make is good.
Lastly, get some great music. You can buy music or download it, but people who listen to music tend to workout harder and longer than those who don’t. Choose whatever music you like, it doesn’t have to be “aerobics music”. You can also buy fitness CDs for about $15 each or download songs for about $1.00 each.
If you buy everything I mentioned above, it will cost you less than $200 and you’ll be well on your way to getting a great workout right in your own home. You don’t need to buy equipment that costs thousands of dollars just to get a good workout at home. Most of the time that big equipment becomes a coat rack in the corner of a room somewhere anyway. So get started working on your home workout. Invite a friend to join you. It will make it more fun and motivating. Have a Happy New Year and good luck getting started on the new you!
