Deceptive Dining
I think it’s great that restaurants are offering more healthy options on their menus, but you might want to read this story before you order next time. ABC2news recently investigated a number of “low calorie/low fat” menu items from popular chain restaurants across the country and the results were very surprising!

Take Macaroni Grill’s “Skinny Chicken” for example. On their website it states that one serving of the Skinny Chicken will run you 330 calories and 5 grams of fat. When tested at the lab results revealed one serving contained an astonishing 1022 calories and 49 grams of fat at one location and only 320 calories and 14 grams of fat at another location. Oh my!!!

I don’t know about you, but this is a little scary to me. This means that even though you are doing everything right, you could be unknowingly sabotaging your weight loss efforts. So what then…never eat out again? This is not an option or desire for many of us.

The best solution to this problem is to be informed and use common sense. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or make special requests on how something is prepared. If something looks like it’s drowning in oil or the portion is gigantic, then there’s a good chance it has more calories and fat than what the menu claims.
