Eat or drink your vegetables
I love the V-8 TV commercials! They’re so funny and so true. It’s actually funnier to a dietitian because most of us have probably wanted to do the same thing to a few of our clients before. And if you haven’t seen these commercials before, you have to check them out to see what I’m talking about.

The bottom line is you have to eat vegetables everyday, but if fresh or cooked veggies aren’t available, vegetable juice is a great back up plan! It’s super convenient and travels well. So handy if you’re packing a quick lunch and the fridge is bare. You can grab some cheese, crackers and a can of veggie juice and you’re all set. They also work great as a snack because it’s very filling. When you’re hungry between meals, vegetable juice will hold you over for a while.

I personally eat more vegetables than fruit because I think they are much more consistent in availability and taste. Asparagus and broccoli will always taste the same, and so will the little sweet peppers I love. As for cantaloupe and peaches…you can’t always be so sure. To get around this I’ve been buying frozen berries lately and mixing them into my yogurt once they thaw which is delicious!

Vegetables in general are also lower in calories than fruit. It’s like the rule of Volumetrics – large portions, minimal calories and loaded with nutrients. So no more excuses…eat or drink your vegetables, otherwise you can expect a slap on your forehead.
