Heading out for dinner tonight? Well, did you know that Macaroni Grill’s Spaghetti and Meatballs with Meat Sauce packs a whopping 2,430 calories and 128 grams of fat? Or that that On the Border’s Grande Taco Salad with Taco Beef will cost you 1,450 calories and 102 grams of fat? Even if you take half home, with that much fat your heart, and your waistline, are NOT going to thank you!
Men’s Health compiled a list of the 20 Worst Foods In America. My suggestion is to check it out and then avoid these foods like the plague. All hope is not lost if you’re someone who enjoys eating out. Here are some tips to help you make better choices… - Avoid anything cheesy, creamy or fried.
- Not all salads are created equal: look out for high calorie toppings like cheese, bacon, olives and nuts. Use dressing sparingly (try vinegar or lemon juice with a small amount of olive oil).
- Order veggies steamed without any added butter or sauce.
- Don’t be afraid to ask how something is prepared. Look for dishes that are grilled, steamed, baked or broiled.
- Watch portion sizes, the calories add up quick (even if the food is healthy). Try ordering appetizer or lunch portions instead.
