X-Treme Eating 2 - Extreme Denial
Whole wheat, trans fat free, low fat, organic…sounds like a recipe for the perfect food, right? WRONG! Coming soon to a grocer near you...junk food, disguised as healthy.

Good for you” junk food is everywhere now. You’ll find everything from added vitamins & nutrients to portion controlled packages. How about the new Krispy Kreme whole wheat doughnuts? Who do they think they’re fooling? Is it better than the original version? Sure, but even with 2 grams of fiber, the 20 calories and 1 fat gram saved isn’t exactly an excuse to count these as “healthy”.

You could crush a vitamin into your extra large hot fudge brownie sundae, you could even use low fat hot fudge, but that doesn’t make it any less calorie laden or make it an acceptable substitute for a healthier choice like milk or yogurt. The challenge for the consumer is to not fall prey to the marketing ploys of sweets, snacks and other traditional “junk” foods.

If you’re trying to control your weight, the best thing to do is avoid junk foods altogether. But if you are going to have junk foods anyway, then the 100 calorie packs can at least help limit your portion. Like with anything else in life, it’s all a matter of balance.

If you're going to eat the snack items, you need to keep the amount under control and you’ll need to give up something else to fit it into your diet. The problem arises when you give up healthy foods like fruits, vegetables & whole grains so you can eat the snacks. Thinking that these items are good for you or healthy… well that’s just denial!
